Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball - League Descriptions

Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball separates its players into different house leagues by grade.

Tee-Ball 1: Pre-kindergarden aged kids - plays during the spring of the year prior to entry into kindergarden. Kids hit the ball off of a tee, no catcher, and a dad occupies 1st base. Everyone plays the field, everyone bats.

Tee-Ball 2: Kindergarden aged kids - Kids hit the ball off of a tee, no catcher, and kids play 1st base. Everyone plays the field, everyone bats, no catcher.

Bantam: 1st grade- Coach pitch for the entire game. Everyone fields, everyone bats.

Shetland: 2nd grade - kids pitch for 2 of 5 innings, coaches pitch for 3 of 5 innings. 10 players in the field, full time player catcher, 3 outs or 10 batters, 3 strikes or 7 balls for a walk.

* Teams are mixed up with players from multiple schools

Maverick: 3rd grade - Full time player pitchers & catchers. League provides umpires, 9 players in the field, 3 outs, 3 strikes and 4 balls. League keeps track of standings. Championship at end of season. No stealing bases. Players are distributed through a "blind draft" through input from prior managers. For those interested in playing travel, tryouts will be held after "house" season. Travel teams will play in 3 local, travel tournaments (during July).

* Season ends Saturday, June 21st. (Could be extended due to weather).
* 14 game season (2 games per week) plus 2 preseason games.

* Games played at Park View School (South of Roosevelt Rd., west side of Park Blvd, south of entrance to Village Links).
* Teams are mixed up with players from multiple schools

Stallion: 4th grade - Kids start to play real baseball. 60' bases, 44' pitching rubber, no lead offs, can steal bases. Championship series at end of season. All-star game at end of season. Many of the kids tryout for the 10 year old travel teams. Players are distributed to the teams through a player evaluation and draft in March. For those interested in polaying travel baseball, tryouts will be held after the "house" season. Travel teams will play in 4 local, travel tournaments (in July).

Pinto: 5th & 6th grade - The Pinto league is a recreational league where players that might not have the same opportunities to pitch, catch or play the infield in the Mustang league. Bases are 65' and a 46' pitching rubber. Teams are populated from a draft. Players are evaluated in early March. The Pinto League has an All-Star game at the end of the season as well as a championship series. Players are re-drafted at the beginning of each year. Similar to the Stallion League, players may steal bases, but may not leadoff. Pinto League players are eligible to tryout for the 11U and 12U travel baseball short season travel teams. For those interested in polaying travel baseball, tryouts will be held after the "house" season. Travel teams will play in 4 local, travel tournaments (in July).

* Post season tournament - Minimum games played: 22 (excludes travel season).
* Games played at Village Green.
* Teams are mixed up with players from multiple schools
* Kane County Cougars game, Thursday June 5th

Mustang: 5th & 6th grade - The Mustang league is a highly competitive league. Players are evaluated in early March. Each team has the opportunity to draft four (4) 5th graders and eight (8) 6th graders. Returning 6th graders return to the same team, 4 new 6th graders and 4 new 5th graders are drafted each year. Bases are 70' and a 48' pitching rubber is use. The Mustang League has an All-Star game at the end of the season as well as a championship series. Players may leadoff from the bases (at their own risk) and can steal bases. Mustang League players are eligible to tryout for the 12U and 12U travel baseball short season travel teams. For those interested in polaying travel baseball, tryouts will be held after the "house" season. Travel teams will play in 4 local, travel tournaments (in July).

* Teams are mixed up with players from multiple schools
* Kane County Cougars game, Thursday June 5th

Bronco: 7th & 8th grade - The Bronco League is a recreational league where players that might not have the same opportunities to pitch, catch or play the infield in the Pony League. Bases are 80' and a 54' pitching rubber. Teams are populated from a draft. Players are evaluated in early March. The Bronco League has an All-Star game at the end of the season as well as a championship series. Players are re-drafted at the beginning of each year. Players may lead-off and steal bases. Broco League players are eligible to tryout for the 13U and 14U travel baseball short season travel teams. Players may wear metal spikes in the Bronco League. For those interested in polaying travel baseball, tryouts will be held after the "house" season. Travel teams will play in 4 local, travel tournaments (in July).

Pony: 7th & 8th grade - The Pony League is a competitive league. Players are evaluated in early March. Each team has the opporunity to draft four (4) 7th graders and eight (8) 7th graders. Returning 8th graders return to the same team, 4 new 8th graders and 4 new 7th graders are drafted each year. Bases ar 80' with a 54' pitchers mound. The Pony leage has an All-Star game at the end of the season as well as a championship series. Players may leadoff and steal bases. Pony League players are eligible to tryout for the 13U and 14U travel baseball short season travel teams. Players may wear metal spikes in the Pony League. For those interested in polaying travel baseball, tryouts will be held after the "house" season. Travel teams will play in 4 local, travel tournaments (in July).
